Truman Wants YOU to Donate Blood

On this bright Monday morning, the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse in Columbia, MO is completely packed with equipment and dozens of blood donation stations. As the American Red Cross’ executive vice president of biomedical services, Chris Hrouda, finishes his remarks and the Chamber finishes their ribbon cutting, America’s largets multiday blood drive is underway.

Delta systems has been very pleased to help out the American Red Cross blood drive for the past 20 years with a customized, and ever-evolving blood donor registration and tracking system that has been in use at almost 40 blood drives and deferral days. This year is a bit different in that our capability to track the average donation time has been removed due to a reordering of the entire donation process. However, our real-time stats of overall donation numbers is still valid. The entire process continues to keep wait times to only a few minutes while providing the Homecoming committee with vital participant statistics that help to determine the winner of the Homecoming festivities.

If you hit http://www.columbiabusinesstimes.com from your DESKTOP, but want to see the cell phone friendly version of the website, scroll to the very bottom and click on “Switch to our mobile site”.

We left the full version of the site as the default from the iPad and iPad2. There is plenty of screen space and the site fills it very well.  The mobile version on the iPad just looked too sparse.

Missouri Grand Prix Swimming Competition Website

The 2011 Missouri Grand Prix is the fifth annual swim competition held in the Aquatic Center at the University of Missouri. World-renowned athletes like Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, and Natalie Coughlin will be coming from all over the US to compete. With that in mind, the Missouri Grand Prix came to us for a website befitting this Olympic precursory event.

Will we see some world records broken during this premier swimming event?  It’s happened before.

Using the WordPress Content Management System, we were able to give the customer the full control and flexibility they needed to instantly update their content as new information came in. We customized the system to allow them to enter event information, news updates, athlete bios, photos and competition results on the fly. We even gave them the ability to create and customize their own web-forms to collect information from their numerous volunteers.

The Society of American Business Editors and Writers has partnered with Delta Systems for over 10 years. In the early days, Debin Benish trained Carrie Paden and her staff on the use of Microsoft Access.  Seeing that their time would be better spent on serving their thousands of members, SABEW turned to Delta Systems to build a membership management system, a conference management system, and a system to handle the hundreds of entries they receive to their annual “Best in Business” (BiB) contest.  The latest iteration of these systems is now online at SABEW.org. Members can now renew their membership directly online, view member-only content, as well as submit entries to the BiB contest as well as handle the judging all online.

Delta Systems used a unique blend of off-the-shelf and custom designed systems. WordPress was used to handle the front end content displaying. The Columbia Missourian needed to get some recent election results up on their website quickly. Their interactive maps were looking great. All elections and propositions were laid out by precinct. Now they just had to wait for election day and the results to come rolling in.

The only problem was how to get that pile of data from an Excel spreadsheet into the website.

Delta Systems was able to quickly build an XLS to XML converter that allows the reporters to import new XLS files as quickly as they receive them.

The result speaks for itself but the reporters chimed in too. . .
