3 for 3 Plus a People’s Choice AND Best of Interactive!

All of us here at Delta Systems are very pleased to announce our awards received at the 2010 Mid-Mo American Advertising Federation ADDY celebration. We walked away with a Gold in Interactive Consumer HTML for our work on Baumgartner’s Boone County Ham, a Silver in Interactive Business-to-Business HTML for CloudSMTP, and a Gold in Interactive Self-Promotion for our very own JustCallDelta.com. We were also very honored to be presented with a People’s Choice and the 2010 Best of Interactive award for the Boone County Ham website.

All the winning websites are powered by WordPress which allows Delta to provide unparalleled client-powered maintainability to the sites. The client can directly update their content, images, forms, add more recipes (using custom post types) and even update their pricing and order forms without needing to know any HTML.

Steve Powell, 33, President of Delta Systems Group, Inc., was recognized as a member of Columbia’s 40 Under Forty Class of 2005.

The 40 Under Forty award is sponsored by the Columbia Business Times, which each year chooses forty young Columbia business owners who exemplify the values of leadership, entrepreneurship, achievement, community involvement and ambition.

A leader and contender in the world of information technology, Steve Powell seeks to support established organizations that promote life enrichment and maintain what he considers to be Columbia’s excellent quality of living.

Powell has two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Missouri-Columbia in Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering, and has had extensive computer management, IT, and software development experience with Mid-Missouri companies like Toastmaster, Inc. and Automated Business Solutions. Being a serial entrepreneur, Powell started SoftCell Communications, MessageOne, Ticket Topper, and recently bought his current company, Delta Systems Group, which has been named a 2004 Small Business of the Year Finalist by the Columbia Chamber of Commerce.

Powell is also actively engaged in the community through his donation of resources to Woodcrest Chapel, Job Point, the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, and the Central Missouri Food Bank.

Tim Rich, Associate Director for the Central Missouri Food Bank, lauded Powell as a professional and an asset to the community of Columbia.

“I’ve worked with Steve for years, and am always amazed at his generosity and expertise in his field,” Rich said. “He’s contributed thousands of dollars worth of service to us in developing tracking software for our clients – which has enabled us to receive more funding – and for our volunteer database, which has saved us resources by being able to consolidate efforts in coordinating volunteer hours. I’ve always been impressed with how he deals with people and clients. He has a long term vision which often foresees what a client may need in the future.”

In addition to his business acumen, Powell is also an accomplished amateur photographer specializing in Mid-Missouri scenes. Among his photo credits are the 2004 and 2005 Columbia Chamber of Commerce Visitor’s Guide and Directory, the cover shot for the 2005 Boone Electric Coop Calendar; and several interior photos for the 2004 and 2005 Mid Missouri Weather Calendar.

Powell and his wife turned down opportunities to relocate in New York City, Chicago, Austin, and Massachusetts, because they wanted to continue building relationships and a community here in Columbia.

“My wife and I have been in Columbia for 14 years,” Powell said. “I want to continue to encourage responsible and intelligent community growth in all four geographical directions. I would entice more businesses and events to the area that promote Columbia as a tourism destination.”

Powell and his wife Kristi are expecting a baby boy in early July.

Delta Systems Group, Inc. has been named a 2005 Small Business of the Year Award Finalist at the Chamber of Commerce Quarterly Membership Breakfast and at the 2005 Small Business Week Awards Ceremony held May 5th at the Stoney Creek Inn & Conference Center.

This is the first nomination for Delta Systems Group under our new owner, Steve Powell, but Delta has been nominated before. In 1992 the company–then known simply as Delta Systems, and chaired by our founder, Ms. Debin Benish–went on to win the award for Small Business of the Year in the Services category.

To qualify as a Small Business of the Year Finalist, the business must be a current member of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, have less than 50 full-time personnel, and have been in business for at least two years. Candidates are nominated by their peers, after which they file a formal application to be considered for the Award. A panel of judges from the business community selects the recipients.

Steve Powell, system designer for the SUCCESS Project (http://www.mosuccess.com) within the Vocational Rehabilitation Division of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, is the recipient of the “Missouri IT Recognition Award” for his assistance on the Multi-Agency Data Dictionary Initiative. The award is given to recognize technical and non-technical individuals who have shown initiative, creative thinking, and/or extraordinary effort by participating in an IT initiative that has resulted in a positive impact and significant value to an agency and/or the state.

To make this multi-agency data dictionary possible, staff from DHSS, DMH, DSS and DESE-Vocational Rehabilitation worked together with the consulting firm of Tier Technologies. Six applications across the four agencies were reviewed for common attributes. Sixty-six client name and demographic attributes were identified and reconciled with national data standards and aligned with Missouri GIS addressing standards. Along with the multi-agency data dictionary, a data dictionary methodology was documented for future use and a suggested architectural rendering for an online initial client application system was delivered.
